Glamour: In the photography community this has a wide meaning, for most professional photographers this means playboy like images, including lingerie, nude and semi nude work. it can also be used to describe high fashion, and also mean having makeup different than what you are use to. It is not images produced by glamour shots.

Book: has two meanings in this business 1. a portfolio of images . 2. to hire for a date and time to work at modeling.
TFP (Time for Prints): many models and photographers will use this to enhance or add images to their book , This is a good way to start : the model provides the time the photographer in many cases will provide the model with one or more images she can use for her book. Both get what they need. TFP means the photographer can't afford to hire a model because it may be for his book rather than the companies. Models these type of photo session usually means photographing what the photographer has in mind for the images. unless arrangements have been made or the photographer is willing to photography what you want , in most cases thought you are the subject : not the client,.
Runway: means to be a clothing rake for some fashion designer who is putting on a show. most runway models must meet the requirement for agencies like Ford, Boss and such: 5ft 9inch , wear size 4-6 dress, measurement are usually 32-24-32 given a point one way or the other.
Swimwear: just about anything that has to do with swimming can go in this category.
Erotic: This is a very miss leading term, look at glamour above and then put the word sex in there. it can in some instances mean playboy type images , it does mean sexually meaning images. Both in art, artistic nudes, glamour, can all fall in this area. Mostly it means today- adult material.
Many on line modeling and portfolio web sites break pictures down into these categories knowing what they mean can save everyone concerned.
Experience: is the amount of time one has worked as a model doing commercial print, or web type images: I say this because I once had a model show up who stated she had been modeling since she was 18- (she now was in her late 20's) yet she could not pose, did not know anything about how to approach a shoot, when asked she stated her husband had been photographing her since she was 18- That counted didn't it! (actually no that doesn't count- it helps, but and experienced model will have tear sheets of work she has done in the past. A resume of photographers to contact and companies she has model for in the past. Many models today work on shoots which are found only on the internet. Which is fine. Their work can be viewed on line.
Scams: You know the sayings if its to good an offer, then its a scam.
Modeling cost money- in clothing, shoes, time, gas, photos, comp cards, zed cards (same thing as comp card) in web space , Don't expect to make a fortune, don't expect to not have to pay for images. While TFP will get you some images. You will need specific types of shots with agencies or agents, this can run up to as much as 1500 dollars depending on where and who you get to take the pictures. Any time someone offers you the moon- look into it. agents and agencies may require you to have certain images shot, but in most cases they will recommend different photographers, not tell you that you must use only their photographers and most agencies are their to help make you money- having to pay to join is rather stupid since they haven't gotten you any jobs yet. That is why agents and agencies take a percentage: the cost of getting you work.
BCD Photography hopes this will help a lot of models starting out in the business. We wish everyone of you the best of luck in your pursuit of your dreams.
